About Oak Island, NC - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Oak Island is a seaside town located in Brunswick County, North Carolina. It had a population of 6571 as of the 2000 census, and it was founded in 1999 when the towns of Yaupon Beach and Long Beach were consolidated. The comfortable weather in this area makes it popular for summer tourists due to its high temperatures and prime location on the coast. The summer population swells to anywhere between 30,000 and 50,000 seasonal residents.
The island was first inhabited in the beginning of the 19th century, and it was nearly destroyed in the 1950s by Hurricane Hazel. After the hurricane, only five buildings remained on Long Beach. The island, which has a total area of 9 square miles with 28 miles of coastline, was able to quickly recover and become one of the top tourist destinations in the area.
Due to its proximity to the coast, outdoor activities are extremely popular in this area. There are a number of boat and fishing charter companies located in Oak Island, including Oak Island Fishing Charters, Cruise One, and Cool Runnings Charters. Visitors may also enjoy checking out the Suncoast Aviation Biplane Rides and the Oak Island Lighthouse.
